What About Bob?

Yes, I get that one all the time, and I'm nothing like Bill Murray's character, Bob, in the movie of the same name. I am a bit like Bill Murray at times, though.

There are a lot more Bob Cottrells out there than I ever would have thought possible. I've come across them in the phonebooks where I've lived and  have had people call my number wanting to know if I'm a certain Bob Cottrell. But, usually I'm not the one they're looking for. I've never met another one of them although I came close one time in Raleigh, NC - but the other Bob Cottrell didn't show up for a business appointment with a friend of mine and I never got to even see what he looked like. For the record, I have detailed plans to live the rest of my life without meeting any of the others.

Anyway, the first thing is that my last name is pronounced with the accent on the FIRST syllable as in Cot' trell. About half the Cottrells in the United States pronounce the name with the accent on the first syllable, about half on the last syllable (mostly in the North, although those Yankees do relocate, you know). The Cottrells in my family came from the Winston-Salem, NC area.

I was born and raised in what was, at that time, "The biggest little country town in the world" (my words from about age 15 on up), aka Nashville, TN. Home of country music and little else, Nashville was pretty boring to me for the most part. I won't go into a lot of detail, but suffice it to say that it was nothing like it is today. It started to grow up somewhere in the 90's and I last lived there in 1985. I still go back to visit my Mom, my Aunt, and a cousin and his family. While Nashville holds a lot of good memories, I have no plans to live there again.

Here's the rundown on where I have lived, gone to school, and worked, for those who knew me back whenever when was.

I've worked as a Computer Consultant since 1980 either through my own companies or freelancing while working at other companies. My current position is CEO of Topsail Consulting, Inc. We do Web Design, Custom Software Design, Consulting, Training, and just about everything else when it comes to computers.

I currently live in Fayetteville, GA which is about 30 miles south of downtown Atlanta (we're usually included when people talk about Metro Atlanta, which seems to cover most of the state of Georgia now).

My main hobby is fishing. I'll fish wherever water is, fresh or salt. Otherwise, I'm often found playing with my computer. I've been writing a novel and hope to finish it soon.

That's all for now without getting too detailed. I might add some more stuff later, ya never know.
